Annual Speech Language Pathology Conference - Caring for Individuals with Progressive Disorders: Communication and Swallowing Strategies

This conference is intended to provide information on communication and swallowing strategies for individuals with progressive disorders. There will be a focus on neuromuscular diseases (e.g., ALS, MS) and movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s, Huntington’s). A major focus of the conference will be on working with caregivers to train strategies.

Participants will be able to:

1. Understand basic neuropathology and physiopathology of selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
2. Understand communication and swallowing issues in selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
3. Learn specific strategies to assist with management of communication and swallowing issues in selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
4. Appreciate the importance of training caregivers how to manage communication and swallowing issues in selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
5. Apply strategies to their own caseload upon return to work.
