Annual Speech Language Pathology Conference - Caring for Individuals with Progressive Disorders: Communication and Swallowing Strategies

This conference is intended to provide information on communication and swallowing strategies for individuals with progressive disorders. There will be a focus on neuromuscular diseases (e.g., ALS, MS) and movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s, Huntington’s). A major focus of the conference will be on working with caregivers to train strategies.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand basic neuropathology and physiopathology of selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
- Understand communication and swallowing issues in selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
- Learn specific strategies to assist with management of communication and swallowing issues in selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
- Appreciate the importance of training caregivers how to manage communication and swallowing issues in selected neuromuscular diseases and movement disorders.
- Apply strategies to their own caseload upon return to work.
