What qualities are we looking for?
We are looking for people who are positive, caring, sensitive, energetic, customer - service oriented and have a strong desire to work with seniors.

What kind of commitment do I have to make?
We are looking for volunteers who are 13 and over who can give us 3 hours a week for a minimum of six months.

What volunteer placements are available?
Our greatest need for volunteers occur during regular business hours Monday to Friday. We do have some opportunities in the evenings and some weekends. Most of our placements are working directly with our seniors in Therapeutic Recreation Programs. I.e. Discussion groups, Pet Visiting Program, Special events to name just a few.

To become a Volunteer

  1. Participate in a general orientation - either a morning or evening session. Call the volunteer office at 416 785 2500 ext. 2572 to register for an orientation.
  2. Complete an Application Form  
  3. Submit a Volunteer Reference Check
  4. Complete the mandatory two step Tuberculosis Skin Test Form. Follow the steps as outlined on the form.
  5. One must be at least 13 years of age to volunteer without a guardian
  6. We ask for a six month commitment, preferably three hours per week unless you are a youth/student summer volunteer.
  7. When you have completed an orientation and submitted your documentation, please contact the volunteer office to book an appointment for an interview. Documentation can be mailed, dropped off at the Volunteer Services Department, 2nd floor hospital or faxed to (416) 785-2850.
