Research Focus
I use transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to improve cognitive functioning in people living with dementia. Currently, we are running multiple studies for various symptoms. For example, we are examining the use of tDCS to improve naming in people with primary progressive aphasia, a form of dementia that affects language, as well as how tDCS can improve executive function in people with Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of these studies is to show that tDCS is a valuable therapy option for dementia. In the future, we will also explore how various factors such as sex, mood, and skull thickness differences can impact how much someone improves in response to tDCS therapy. These results will allow us to tailor the administration of tDCS to optimize its beneficial effects for each person.
