At Baycrest’s state-of-the-art Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness, Baycrest experts will focus on integrating research with wellness programs and lifestyle interventions, with the ultimate goal of reducing dementia risk. The Centre is led by Baycrest Senior Scientists Dr. Howard Chertkow and Dr. Nicole Anderson.

Kimel Family Centre members aged 55+ will receive an in-depth assessment of their dementia risk factors (genetics, health and lifestyle risk factors such as exercise, diet, social engagement and cognitive engagement). They will then be assigned to interventions to help reduce their dementia risk. The Centre includes Stan’s gym, a warm-water pool, an art room, a room for floor exercises and a room for group activities such as classes. Members will be reassessed after the intervention(s) to determine how their dementia risk factors have changed.

The Kimel Family Centre for Brain Health and Wellness will open for baseline assessments and programming in 2023.

For more information about the centre, visit the Kimel Family Centre Website.

Please note: All community residents wishing to become a member of the Kimel Family Centre must provide informed written consent to take part in the research study, and pay an introductory fee of $25 a month (plus tax) to cover the cost of centre programming. The costs of the research will be paid by donor and research grant funding.
